About

français

The research centre in Technoculture, Art and Games is an interdisciplinary collaboration platform for research/creation in game studies and design, digital culture and interactive art. Based at Concordia University in Montreal, TAG brings together scholars, artists, designers, engineers and students from across faculties and disciplines from a variety of universities, the game development industry and community based groups.

At the heart of TAG is a shared interest and concern with digital games as exemplary objects for cultural research, artistic creation, technical innovation and social mediation in the context of an expanding information society and the changing fabric of everyday life. TAG has a triple mandate to:

  • Initiate and support collaborative research/creation projects in digital game studies and design at both the faculty and student level.
  • Communicate and establish partnerships with games related industries, independent game developers and international researchers and artists.
  • Actively explore and develop viable models of interdisciplinary research collaboration.

TAG resources include an expanding and developing network of over 20 faculty, postdoctoral fellows, graduate students and industry/community collaborators, a research/creation ‘collaboratory’ affiliated with the Hexagram Institute for Research/Creation in Media Arts and Technology, a digital game playspace, tools and equipment for game and gameplay analysis and design, regular colloquia and social/network events, financial and infrastructural support for university-based independent game design, and integration with undergraduate and graduate degree requirements in several departments across the fine arts and arts and science faculties at Concordia.
